I picked this up the other day at the local junk shop as it was in my price range
I dug through it and it seems all there but someone had painted the body and the paint wrinkled BAD. I thought I could just sand it smooth but now it seems that it has eaten into the plastic too and roughened it up.
Now I'm thinking maybe it would be a good candidate for a weathered old barn find with rough cracked paint. I have seen some unreal weathering jobs but really have no idea how to accomplish it. Do you folks use airbrushes for that? I picked up a small jar of paint at the local hobby shop called 'rust' Is this what you use in an airbrush? I have an airbrush around here that I used for another project that I'll get around to showing off here someday. Or is there a good way to smooth up this body? I tried brake fluid to strip the paint on another car I had and ended up with a sticky smeared flaking mess. Somebody point me down the right path then give me a kick in the rear....

I would give it an overnight, or longer if needed, bath in Purple degreaser. Scrub it periodically with a soft tooth brush to remove the loosened paint as it starts to dissolve. Then see what the body looks like. The Purple stuff attacks the paint but not the plastic.

weathering is a multi layered effect and builders have different ways they do it. I myself use the rust paint or brown primer. I like to rust the heck out of them so the prime is the first step. there is a how to on you tube for weathering and a few of my friends on FB are masters at this. All you can do is take a big step and give it a go. I have a how to on how I rust up the rat rods. Will post if I can find it for ya. Like skip said. Purple Power for stripping paint... Then layer with a good primer filler after you get the paint off and wash body. Let dry and give it another shot of prime if needed. Then wet sand. Duplicolor has a good primer/filler in gray..
