I am working on a 49 Ford custom for a build off locally and have 2 questions I hope someone can answer for me.
#1, How does a person chop a top? I have never done this and it scares me.
#2, How do you make louver a hood and/or trunk lid?
Any help or good links showing how to are appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Number 2 first. some kits have plastic strips of louvers that you can glue to the hood or trunk. here are some on ebay www.ebay.com/itm/201072789551?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I have also cut them out of one hood and molded them on to another. Number 1 ok, this will be much longer and a better source may be to simply google it and see if you can find a video or step by step instructions. I think everyone does it differently and of course the more curve you have or round the top is the harder it is. The phone booth t is and easy chop because it is basically a box. I ,when possible will use several tops from the same type kit and piece them together so that I keep the same proportions and keep the posts in the same place. I wish I was working on one so I could post pics . but maybe some of our other members can help. With all things trial and error is your best teach and dont be afraid to mess up , we all have. look at my tutoral on Building and AWB Chevelle and you can see how easy something like moving the wheel wells can be. jerryscherrys.freeforums.net/thread/141/altered-wheel-base-body-grandpabeast?page=1Good luck , keep us posted and post some pics !!

GB has it right. Google for some in progress shots of someone chopping a shoebox, I'm sure there's tons somewhere lol. The problem with anything newer then about 1931 is as the roof gets dropped down it gets shorter length wise. A second body or just a roof section is the easiest, but you could do it with styrene sheet as well. There's always the resin body route too.

Oh I forgot the part about louvers lol. If you have a revell '32 Ford or '49 merc, you could graft the louvers from them into the panels on the shoebox.

Thanks guys. I think I'll just pass on chopping the top cause it is too much of a hassle. I googled it and it is way over my head. As for the louvers, one guy said he uses a heated screw driver? Thanks again!

If it helps I have a step by step on chopping shoe box fords and mercs. I have chopped tops on some 1:1 cars and put the same chop process's in the scale model. I will see where it is at and post it up for you if it helps.. very easy to follow and not hard to do really.
