I never kept up with it really, as when I got into Nascar, Mopar wasn't in it....And then always knew of Petty Racing due to family members so, but he was all Pontiac then so.....still my favorite driver even then!
But anyway, I never knew what was used for Nascar racing after the 426 Hemi was taken out of it.....I take it that was the 358 that took its place? That HAD to be a down sizing! LOL And I bet the drivers complained terrible about it too! Hard to replace a fire breathing dragon with an alley cat.....

In 71 NASCRAP made the boys with the SuperBirds use a 305 small block like the Trans Am guys had to use As long as Petty was in a Mopar we painted our race cars Corporate/Petty blue
I've been a Petty fan since the late 60's & even after he went GM in the 70's but not so much

....They had a Mopar 305? As the Trans Am guys were using the 340? I know chevy used/had a 305, but I don't think it EVER went into Nascar, so.....
Interesting!
As far as Richard Petty, goes, I am a fan to this very day! I'd LOVE to come up with a match for the Petty blue, for a "street" Superbird.....NOT painted like a race car, but the color and the striping done as tho, it was a Petty Corp. owned car.....Just a daily driver street version.....Even tho, they were race cars on the street anyway!
