After an agonizing week of trying to decide on what to build for this contest, I finally settled on a 1969 Nova. I think I know what direction I'm going with it, but who knows where it eventually ends up. It's starting out headed for a pro touring, resto-mod, whatever you want to call it. We'll see. I have had this idea for 30 years or so of how I would build a real Nova for myself and in the last few years has evolved to upgrading the engine and suspension to current technology. I guess I will build a model of it instead. At the least it should turn out like a street legal late 60's early 70's Trans Am series road racer. The last pic is parts from a Revell '98 C5 Corvette convertible and some '69 C3 Corvette ZL1 fender flares. Still not set on tires and wheels yet, kind of depends on if it ends up with the C5 Corvette suspension or not.

Thanks for the interest and encouragement guys. I've done this to real C2 and C3 Corvettes at work, but this will be a new challenge doing it to a 1:25 scale plastic car. On the real ones we only used the torque tube and transaxle once, usually we put the transmission back on the engine and use a Dodge Viper rear axle with the C4 or C5 suspension. The torque tube and transaxle requires a massive floor tunnel and rear floor modifications where space is already at a premium. Sooooo, not sure yet if it will get the tube or get a Viper rear end.

Sounds like you have huge plans for this one. Can't wait to see you get started. Me too. The problem won't be getting started as much as getting finished. I have been batting a low average lately. Just have to remember: time management, time management, time management, time management

Skip, since you work on these in 1:1 scale... Could the Vette transaxle be bolted directly to the engine? If so could the drivetrain components be adapted to work together? I'm envisioning something like a mid engined 67 Chevelle wagon, or maybe a stretched mid engine Vette.

I'm envisioning something like a mid engined 67 Chevelle wagon, or maybe a stretched mid engine Vette. Never done it, but it is something I have contemplated and have wanted to mess around with, as I am always thinking of mid engine applications. I think it would be possible, as the torque tube is really just a tube with a really long pilot shaft to the transaxle. When we put regular transmissions on the LS engine we just put a regular flywheel or flex plate on it, depending on if it's a manual or auto trans, and the bell housing pattern is the regular old Chevy pattern. Would just have to figure out how to get the bell housing mated to the transaxle. I am sure an adapter can be made, if there isn't one out there available already. The Factory Five GTM Supercar kit car, which is a mid engine, uses a C5 corvette as a donor car, but you need a Porsche 911 transaxle as they don't use the Corvette trans. For the sake of building models though, I would just do it and take that torque tube out and put them together and make it look as plausible as possible.

These are cool kits. Nice choice I love the Nova's. Had a few back in the day. This contest is turning out to be great with a variety of builds.

that's pretty slick skip, maybe in scale the torque tube won't need such a huge tunnel?
cool idea, looking forward to seeing this come together.
