Hi guys, after talking with Grandpabeast and making sure it was OK to join in I thought about what to build. I dug through my boxes and settled on this... Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr First mod will be a 3-4 inch chop, probably closer to 4 with the kerf lol. I plan to build a custom grill and French the head and tail lights. I will also lower it down and make it a tail dragger and since I'm using the 312 for another build I will be building a custom motor for this to be revealed later. That's all I've got right now, have to go out to the garage and find my 1/8 inch masking tape and start laying out the chop. More pics and info coming later today, I hope. Thanks for looking, this will be my first competition with model cars and I hope I can keep up to par with you guys.

Well I found my tape lol... Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr No turnin back now... Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr I also removed the b pillars as seen in the pic above. I had to split the roof to lengthen it and got the rear half back on... Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr I'll have to wait for my other body to show up to finish the chop so I'll start the chassis next. Thanks for looking and comments welcome.

Me either, this is the first time I've chopped something this new. I usually try to stick with early '30s cars/trucks when chopping the top. This will be a learning experience for sure lol.

Thanks for the offer Gardner but I've got er under control, I think lol. The engine I'm gonna use is a 216 straight six from the revell '41 Chevy truck kit, but I'm going to change it up to resemble a Ford 223 six with some extra goodies on it. Here's the start on the engine work. I cut the closed drive transmission off of the bell housing and will attach an open drive transmission from a car to give me a longer tail shaft. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Here's a couple pics with the front half of the roof clamped on so I could get an idea of where this is heading and so you guys can see too. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr And I got the front lowered about 3 scale inches and the rear is just sitting under the car with the tires resting on the wheel wells. I don't know if I should go lower in the rear or just leave it where it is, sitting pretty much level. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Thanks for looking and comments always welcomed.

Gonna look cool, I think it looks just right like that , good choice on the motor can't beat a straight six. Glad your changing it to a Ford though a Chevy in a Ford no..no..no.. just kidding LOL

Thanks Beast, hopefully it turns out decent. I absolutely hate body work lol, mainly cause I'm not very good at it, but we'll see if I can pull this off. Last night I got the new transmission mated to the bell housing then this morning I got er painted. I will still have to do some detail paint and probably a light black wash. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Its kinda hard to tell the color but its candy apple red sprayed over copper, done with testors enamel spray cans that I've had for about 8 years lol. I also split the stock exhaust manifold to run dual pipes. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Then tonight I started the rear suspension alterations which were a pain in the rear(no pun intended). I cut the leaf spring mounts off and glued them to the axle in the stock location the cut the rear shackle from the springs and flipped the springs upside down. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr It's also been a real pain to squeeze this sixer into this car. I had to cut a bunch of the firewall out for it to clear. I'm really hoping that I can get it to work and look proper in there since I've already done so much chopping lol. Hopefully I'll have more to show tomorrow. Thanks for looking and comments and suggestions always welcome.

Very nice. Is that the color the body will be? Yes it will be if I can find a can of lacquer. The cans I sprayed the motor with didn't spray very well at all. It took me 3 tries to get the engine and trans to look decent lol. I think duplicolor makes a candy apple red so when I get my next paycheck I'll be heading to an auto parts store to see what I can find, if not I found some online I'll order. I also plan to paint it two tone with an ivory top, if I can find a nice pearl paint I like. I just hope I don't screw it up, I've never done two tone paint on a model before.

Thanks CM, the testors stuff I used on the block is the same way, has to be sprayed over a metallic base coat. Since the can is so old it didn't spray well or dry properly and I'd hate to use it on a body, especially one I'm putting a lot of work into. I haven't gotten much done, not nearly as much as I would like but tomorrow is Friday so I can do more after the wife and kids are in bed since I don't have to work Saturday lol. Here's some pics of where its at... The pipes aren't perfect but I want it to look like it was done back in the day. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr And as always thanks for looking and comments welcome.

This is looking real good can't wait to see it done Thanks man, me too lol. A few pics of my progress so far tonight. Plug wires done.. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Chassis and suspension painted flat black... Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Engine mocked up in the engine bay to make sure I haven't screwed up yet lol. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr This pic shows how much firewall I had to cut out to fit the sixer in... Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr And the final pic for now, the kit comes with the supercharger for the y block and it now resides on the sixer. You can never have to much power right (even with a straight six lol)... Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Thanks for looking and comments welcome!

Thanks Ice! The other night I started filling the gaping hole in the firewall, it turned out better then I expected lol. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Also my second body showed up in the mail today so I got out the razor saw and got to work. I cut the second roof larger then needed and sanded to fit. New body dissected Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Roof glued onto the body I'm using. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr A little sanding and some filler needed, but better then I anticipated. I also got some more done on the engine. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr That's all for now, thanks for looking and comments always welcome!

Looking great love that top chop coming along fine ! Thanks Gardner! I just mailed payment for a resin tuck n' roll interior, so that should help this build out if I screw the top up to much lol.

I ordered an airbrush and will just buy some HOK or similar to paint it instead. Thanks for the info though, I appreciate it! nice project, love the chop job Thanks, I think it looks decent and hope it turns out okay in the end lol.

Thanks Iceman, Ed emailed me today and said my order shipped so I'm hoping it'll be here this weekend sometime. I can't wait to get it lol. Thanks junkman, I'm by no means a great or very talented builder, but I do enjoy it and its relaxing most of the time lol. I've been doing putty work on this thing since the last update, albeit very slowly. Tonight I finally got it to where I felt it was ready for a base coat of white paint and that's when things went wrong. I started with some light mist coats and did about 3 passes when it started to run like crazy. I think my can of white froze last winter and is no good now. So I wiped the runs off while wet and hopefully it'll be dry enough in the morning to wet sand it a little then try again, but with a different can of paint(probably ivory since I have it here lol). Anyways here's a pic of the body work all done before my mishap with the paint. I shaved the badges and door handles and also frenched the taillights. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr As always comments and suggestions welcome.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words and encouragement. This isn't much of an update but I got the final base coat done in this pic and I just sprayed the first coat of final color on about 10 minutes ago lol. Hopefully my other final color shows up today so I can finish the paint work on the body and move onto get this bad boy buttoned up. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr I would've taken a pic with the first final color but its hard to see in pics since its just pearl white, but it sure looks good to me lol. Thanks for looking!
