I find a missing section here that might be of interest and I hope others feel the same. I have picked up unbuild kits and various parts and pieces for future builds. I think there might a use for an area where others can list any new kits purchased, new parts availability from vendors or ideas using existing parts.
For instance, it's payday today (thank you SSDI) and I was able to buy a set of rear Halibrand wheels and gasser tires along with an un built 392 gasser gasser engine with instructions off Ebay. I also shopped and although I couldn't afford a pro-stock or funny car in my price range, I did find a re-issue of a flip front '51 Henry J gasser sealed kit that is beautiful.
In the parts market, I've been able to save some money by skipping the pre-anodized fuel fittings from RB Motion and buying clear red and blue Tamiya paint, which produces the same result. Also, instead of buying two part fittings, I found Detail Masters had one piece alum fittings where one end is tapered for the braided line to insert and then the fitting extends into a simple barrel with beautifully tooled etchings and a hex fitting. Paint 'er up and use CA with accelerant to the side of your carb and presto! BTW, any size braided line larger than .025 should have a solid copper core inside. By rolling the line on a flat surface with a fresh exacto blade, you can strip off the braid and leave the core which will easily glue into the fitting.
Anyway, this would be a good forum for sharing new kits, warnings about unusual build anomalies, little things to remember that will help the build, etc. In time you could have a thread for almost any kit to share info about!!!
BTW, as an example, I saw a listing for a 428 BOSS Ford engine on the trees for $7.99 and included instructions. Lo and behold, after enlarging the parts pics and the instructions, it turns out the parts ARE NOT from the Revell Glidden/Iaconia kit(s). It's the same parts and steps 1 and 2 of my Shoebox Ford, the one that requires you to actually use the instructions and engine parts from the '55 pro sportsman Chevy! I kindly emailed the seller and informed them of the confusion. Whether or not they care or even know is their business, but it would help us here at JC's to know what we're getting into with a build.
