Hi there folks, I'm building this to resemble what I hope my 1:1 build will look like when its finished. The 1:1 is an old Navy navy truck that was at the Naval Ammunitions Depot in Hastings, Nebraska during WWII. I have a 292 Ford Y block with a 3 speed tranny out of a 63 f100 going in the real one. The scale version is starting as a revell 41 Chevy and I'm stealing the Y block from a revell 57 Ford custom, even though its a 312 car engine. I will be reworking the engine to resemble a truck engine and since all Y blocks are identicle on the outside I should be able to pull it off lol. I haven't done much to the scale version yet, but will hopefully get some progress done tonight. I started to clean up the chassis removing unnessesary things like leaf spring hangers and running board supports. I also channeled the cab 3 scale inches, just enough to cover the frame rails. For now I'm going to tease you with some pics of the 1:1 and will get some pics of the little one up later tonight. Here's what she looked like when it was dropped off at my house. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr And here's the engine mocked up in the rails and will look pretty much the same when its back together other then I bought chrome rocker covers for it. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr And here's how she currently sits until warm weather arrives. (Ignore the messy garage lol) Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr That's all I got for now. Let me know what you think and thanks for looking.

Well I've been slowly playing around with this in between other projects. This will be to get a good idea of what the 1:1 is going to look like. I decided that I want a suicide front suspension, so I cut about a foot and a half off the front frame rails and "welded" in a chunk of 3" tube to mount the suicide spring perch to. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Then I made some radius rods much like the ones I bought for the 1:1. I left the bottom longer then needed to make sure they're the same length when I go to mount them to the bat wings on the axle. Also in this pic is the detail master disc brakes I got from Iceman. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Then a couple mockup pics with the cab slide back to where I want it, about the length of what I cut off the front rails. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr I still need to find or make a leaf spring for the front, on the big one its a T bucket spring from speedway motors. I think the proportions are still good, also on the 1:1 I'll be using a '35 Chevy truck grill and on this scale version I'll be using a '36 Ford truck resin grill from Ed Fluck. Thanks for looking and comments and suggestions always welcome.

Thanks Iceman and Paul, I got a little more done tonight. I started by making a leaf spring since I couldn't find one in my boxes of parts. Its scale 1 3/4" wide and 26" eye to eye just like the 1:1. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Then I attached the spring and radius rods to the bat wings on the axle. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Then a quick mockup, I know its kinda hard to see with all the white going on lol. Untitled by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr In that pic you can also see the mockup engine in there, not much room after the front engine mount, fan, radiator and grill are installed. I think it should work out well. The wheelbase will be pretty close to original, I hope it doesn't look to terribly long out front when I'm done. As always thanks for looking and comments welcome!

I pulled this one back out to work on while I'm doing the eBay Nova. I started getting the Y block together and painted. My problem though was I'm using a car engine for the model but a truck engine in the 1:1, so some modifications had to be made. The main difference is the trucks and 55-57 T'Birds use a rear sump oil pan and a motor mount off the front of the timing cover. The mount will come later but here's some pics of how I changed the pan. First pic is of the original oil pump location and the oil pump tube. IMG_20140731_222729_849 by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Cut that off.. IMG_20140731_222734_923 by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr And moved to the other side with the tube modified... IMG_20140731_223909_602 by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Its not 100% accurate, but close enough for me lol. Here's what the engine looks like now. IMG_20140802_041123_904 by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr IMG_20140802_041134_994 by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr I need to figure out a way to chrome the breather cap on the oil fill tube now lol and also the rocker covers. I also just realized I need to add the mounts to both sides of the bell housing(dang). Then I moved on to the frame. I decided I needed to zee the rear slightly so the axle has enough clearance to move up and down. IMG_20140802_041206_759 by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Needless to say, I cut it in a bad spot so I will be making some fish plates to put it all back together. Thats all for now. Thanks for looking!

No updates John, except I sold the 1:1 well most of it. I've had a long string of bad luck the past month or so and haven't even stepped foot in my hobby room. Hoping to change that tonight though, gotta knock out the eBay build!

sorry to hear of the bad luck, it does in fact happen and thats when ya get the idea to stay away at times is a good notion BUT then other times you go in and the feeling of the models changes the outlook and mood I find.....
Anyway, good to see ya back at it!

Here's a pathetic update for ya John lol. I switched to the 2x4 intake, since I got a 1:1 one from Paul! And I glued on my alcladed valve covers, but the good news is its back out of the box and on the bench. IMG_20141104_213111 by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr Hopefully I'll get moving on this a little better when that danged Nova is done lol. Thanks for looking and comments always welcome.

This is coming along nicely Jesse. I'm interested in seeing this done. Sorry to hear you had to let your 1:1 go.

Thanks Skip! I'm still working on that pesky Nova, but it'll be done tomorrow lol. I didn't want to sell the 1:1 either but you gotta do what ya gotta do. I'm sure by next weekend I'll have something to show on this!

Jesse that engine looks GREAT! Slow, building, specially a replica, is always the better choice!
