AK: I'm still way at the novice end of the scale and gotta tell you the way you framed the picture, it looks totally 1:1 as a build! Congrats to you for staying true to form and for everyone involved. One day I hope to acquire some of the painting skills so evident on this site!

Thanks Mitchp! I take the pictures with my Android, then download them to my computer. I try to take the shot low so the angle is the same as what we are use to seeing on 1:1 scale cars. But my biggest "trick" of all is to take a bunch of shots then only summit the ones I think look the most realistic. Don't sell yourself short as far as the finishes go, sometimes my paint jobs seem to look better in the pictures than in person. Rarily do I polish anything out anymore and if I decide to use a clear coat, it'll be out of a rattle can. I do try and do a good prep on the body and will use 2 or 3 light primer coats wet sanding inbetween them before appling any color. I do use an airbrush so I can control the amount of paint as well as the pressure at which it is being applied. This does help a lot, but I have seen many excellent paint jobs from rattle cans. I am most certaintly NOT the best painter here, but would be more than happy to send you step by step pictures of my next painting project if you'd like. Just let me know! AK

Thanks AK! I only shoot cans as I've not been able to afford the kit a including Paasche pump (I think) that was recommended by a real pro who's name I can't recall - great help, huh! I wash the body right out of the box, sand and use toothpaste, use 3 coats of primer/sand technique followed by 3-4 base coats misted with 20 minutes in between. I will wet coat 2-3 coats if I'm having good luck with no fisheyes in the base coat.
I need to make the shift to spray painting with a pump, but I'm afraid to lose time on builds by practicing for weeks even months. I'd be glad to see some basic pics and tips about airspray painting, mixing techniques, best brands of paint, etc. Thanks bro!
