Now that I've finished my first resin build and I continue to grow my resin collection it is starting to interest me a bit more. As some of you know resin bodies and parts a little on the expensive side. I've decided to deplete my eBay inventory in the next few months and give resin casting a try. I will invest most of my eBay funds toward this and hope that it pays off. There are a lot of bodies and parts that I'd like to cast. Now I have never tried resin casting so that's why I am here. I've been doing some research and many web sites, especially you tube, offer great tutorials that I can follow. What I'm looking for are first hand stories, successful or not, maybe some best practices, or suggestions. Basically anything that I can't find on the internet. Thanks guys

Thanks, Beast. I'll make sure to send you some of the prototypes. Have the experimental molds drying at this time. I know you have tons of kits so maybe I can "borrow" some of those vintage hard to find at some point in the future.

So here are the results of my experiment. Here's the stuff I bought. Here is some setup for the molds This was my first attempt. I misread the instructions. I'm a model builder for gods sake and I still didn't get it right. Haha. Kicked my self in the butt. Now these were just the molds still. After some recalculating, here are the finished molds. And after a couple of days here are the first results. They are still soft so I need to find a better way to measure the raw stuff. Not too shabby looking for my first attempt but they still ended up soft. A few bubbles on a couple of the, Not to mention it took 24 hrs to get to this. The new stuff I'm ordering takes 15 minutes at the most. You can literally see it hardening in front of your eyes. But anyways. Here they are. Some four spoke hubcaps And some daisy mags It's been a learning experience but I'm confident i should be able to make a few close to perfect bodies.

I have been playing around with some resin casting lately myself. I use Alumilite Quick Set RTV silicon for my molds and and Alumilite resin. I have made some 2 piece molds for some engines and transmissions, but that is about all I have done so far. I do have experience in prototyping and mold building in fiberglass, resins, and thermal vacuum forming, but it is in larger stuff for automotive and golf cars. I don't have enough time this evening to post up some pics and more info on what I have been doing. I will try to get something on here for you this weekend though.

Thanks Skip. I saw the Alumilite stuff. I think I'm going to get resin from Specialty .resin unless you convince me otherwise. I'll wait to hear what you think think and what you've experienced.

That really helps out. I think I'm going to go with this brand. The videos help a lot. They make it look so easy too.

Alright, Skip, you did. I looked into them and placed my first order. I'm excited! Thanks for your input. You are welcome brother. Also, if you have a Hobby Lobby close enough to you and use smaller quantities they carry some of the Alumilite also, and you can use their 40% off coupon on it too.
