Hello fellow hobbyists,
I got a model for Christmas this year (see? I was a good boy!) and it comes with two different engine setups. Now, when it comes to the 1:1 scale stuff I drive GM and am a Mopar fan at heart but never really got into the Blue Oval thing so I am not sure which engine to go with BOSS 302 or 351 Cleveland, but that is a different dilemma. the more I think about it, the more I want to build a garage scene and I was wondering 1) how many people do the whole scene? 2) where should I go to get items such as an engine stand or hoist in 1/24 scale? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hey! Good to see you back Johnny. Interested in building a garage diorama? Great plan and great payoff. Not sure if youve seen the ones that are here. You'll mainly always see them in the In Progress category just because it feels like it never ends. Just when you think you finish, you get another idea that you have to try and fit in. So to answer your questions:
1) The whole scene is something that you have to have in mind. Kind of like taking a picture or painting and replicating it. I've seen a few that are "complete" and they look great. It's really up to you what you want to use it for. If you take a look at most of CustomMuscle's complete builds he uses one he created as a backdrop to most of his pics. So it always looks a bit different. 2) I personally use eBay for most of my 1/24 pieces. There are tons of options. You'll find set that include lots of items you'll find in a normal garage. then some dingle items that add that special touch to YOUR shop.
There's some planning that normally take place too. What material will your walls be? Do you want an exterior, interior, or both diorama? How many care do you want to fit in it? office? bathroom? lights? The list goes on and on. Like I said, take a look at the ones that some folks have here. great ideas and great motivation. As soon as you decide the direction you want to take it, post some progress pics. A diorama is always fun to follow.

Wow, I guess I haven't thought that far ahead. I had always thought of ways to display model cars other than the traditional black base with clear plastic cover on top. Although there is nothing wrong with that route. I guess for now I will brainstorm a bit and see what direction this will take. Right now I would want it to look like a guy had his Mustang sitting in the garage with the other engine sitting next to it waiting to be installed. Maybe if this turns out good I will do a bigger one and have Jay Leno's Garage in 1/24 scale!
