This is another "Tin Indian" that I'm working on. It's the 65 "Test" car. I never knew that this car even existed until I saw a picture on the net. I do have the decals for it and it's in progress along with my '66. Here are a few pics fer ya of this car. This is the car that I want to replicate. I had to use the AMT kit for this build and I had to cut out the body and fit the top and fill in around it. Here it is in color. There was a lot of work to do to this car to get it to look right. I'm still not happy with the chassis but that is all that I have to work with. It is gonna dry a couple of days before I polish and then install the decals. Thanks fer lookin. Dan

That is very cool. The 64 that I saw the picture of had the same straight lettering on it ( my orange 64 lemans gasser ). Thank you for sharing the picture and the build looks great , keep us posted

Thanks guys for the kind words. I got the decals on and I had a little problem on the right side. The decals are a little thicker than others that I've used and the glue really sticks them on when on the body. I couldn't move the one on the right door after it was on the body. It's a tad crooked, but that's the way it is. Also, because they are thicker the one on the door wouldn't conform to the body. I tried using Microl Set and Microl Sol and they didn't do anything. After they dried I tried Solva Set and that melted the decal and it conformed to the body. Well here are some pics fer ya. Next to come is the BMF. Thanks fer lookin. Dan

Grandpa, I got them on E-bay. Every once in a while you will see them on there. When I really decided to build the "Tin Indians" I broke down and looked on e-bay and found them. I tried to get them from the hobby store that I go to, but they couldn't get them, so I had to go where they were. They are a little thicker than most decals and harder to conform to the shapes of the body, but they did work ok after coaxing them a little. Dan

Dan: Very impressed with your work! Custom Muscle here also built a copy of a '66 Goat that was totally rad with an awesome diorama background. I'm a fan of GTO's from high school days ('71-'75) as the neighborhood drag racer had a '65, I had a '66 and there was at least another '64 and a '65 in town. We all tried to hang around the racer as he did his own motor/trans/rear work and we all tugged on his t-shirt for help.
I eventually had a local rip-off shop swap my 10 bolt single track rear out for the mega-12 bolt rear, the PGlide went in favor of a Turbo400 and 389 got punched out to a 421 I think. Big cam, long tubes and an idle that would scare just about anything on the road. One too many tickets for late night burnouts and light to light drags and my folks forced its sale. What a sad day. I'm gonna have to build a kit one day and relive my youth.

Thanks Mitch. Great story about your GTO. Those were the days fer sure. I'm working on a 68 Firebird now and it will be another Tin Indian. I want to build the 68 GTO Tin Indian as well. I have one on my watch list on e-bay but it's a Revell kit and it's 1/24th scale. I'd like to get the MPC kit cause it's 1/25th scale. But, I'll use the Revell one if I can't find the MPC kit. That's a little down the road now until I get a few other projects finished first. Dan

Dan: ever built any Tameless Tiger builds? I'm a big fan of Arnie's rides. I didn't follow the Tin Indian, but I used to get Hot Rod, Popular Hot Rodding and a paper rag as a young man: the National Dragster (me thinks) and I followed weird rides like the Rat Patrol "funny car", Jungle Jim, T.V. Tommy Ivo, the late years of the F.E.D.s and the entrance of Garlit's breed of rear wheel rails. I gotta build one of those one day! I have the Polar Lights kit of the Candies & Hughes 'Cuda flopper that's not an easy one but I'm up for the challenge.
Well, anyway just wanted to say I really dig the details of your painting and decals. That's my weakness so I concentrate on interior detailing, especially the engine. Pro mods, floppers and pro streets are my favorites, but one day I need to try a kinda low rider chop top as a complete change of pace. This will help me develop some new skills. Mitch

I haven't built any Tameless Tigers yet. I do have a Passionate Poncho 62 Catalina to build though. Thanks for the kind words on the decals and painting. The decals on this build and the 66 were a little difficult to put on. The 66's were mostly two part decals and I've never used two part decals before. I didn't care to much for them and the ones on the 65 were thicker than normal and didn't want to lay down. I used Micro-sol and Micro-set and they didn't help. I then used Solva-set and that helped a little. They still didn't fit very well, but I'm done with it and it's settin on the shelf. I'm trying to find a good picture of the twin 66 GTO, which the colors were reversed, so I can build that car as well. Dan
