First ever tutorial so bear with me , this is my method of making more realistic looking coil over shocks First part is cut off top and bottom mounting points
very carefully with new x-tco knife blade in this pic I have removed top and bottom mounts and selected right size piece for replacing the shock body ( a piece of
exhaust pipe from parts box cut same length as original shock )
next I removed some of the shock body to make room for shock cover so it wouldn't be over length
next select right size aluminum tubing for the shock cover to be used ( can also use plastic if you don't have aluminum ) don't know size of tubing just eye balled it
cut tubing to length you need
next time to make the spring I used small copper wire ( from scrap small electrical motor, could also use insulated wire or craft wire up to you , again just eye balled for
right size ) use your thumb to hold about 1/2 inch or so then bend it into L shape and slowly wrap it around your tubing used for shock cover making small tight spirals
until you have same length as plastic shock you cut out
should look about like this
then trim ends off I used finger nail clippers makes clean cut should get this look
after you glue the shock cover to the top shock mount and the shock body and bottom mount bracket together (will have to use Super glue if aluminum tubing was used)
they should have this , old shock is on left side quite a difference
This is old verses new considerable difference , now just paint your colors of choice and you have it , nice thing about this is it's so much easier to paint the spring to
contrast the color of the shock then the molded together one
Hope this helps out for better looking coil overs for more realistic looks Thanks for your time !
