Hi, I'm not really new to the hobby. I just kind of grew away from it. I do auto body and paint for a living and restore and modify musclecars as a hobby. I now find myself interested in model cars again. So here I am.

Welcome timonator. I guess I'm kind of the oddball here in that I started building when I was 8, and never grew away from it (now just a week or so short of being 52).

Welcome timonator. I guess I'm kind of the oddball here in that I started building when I was 8, and never grew away from it (now just a week or so short of being 52). Nothing wrong with that. I imagine your skills are pretty impressive. I find that my current skills can't achieve the level of detail that I expect from myself.

Tim, I won't say that I have no skills, but there a many better builers right here on this forum. I never left the hobby, but after my cousin got me started, we moved away, and I never really foun other model builders or clubs to hang out with. My skills developed with practice. As Yoda might say, "When over 3000 kits you have built, skills will you have developed.". It wasn't until I found forums like this that I started to see new ideas and other ways of doing things. Even by just looking at the pictures, I have learned so much from the rest of you, and it gave me the courage and inspiration to try some new styles and techniques. A big thank you to all of you who have helped tech this old dog some new tricks.

tim, all it takes is some practice. since being back, I have built 2 tractor rigs, 3 trailers and have a few cars and another rig in progress, as I look at my completed builds, I can actually see where i'm getting better. it's like riding a bike I guess, it just comes back, and gets better as you go.
