This just popped into my head at 3am yesterday. I had this semi incomplete kit and wanted to see if it would work. The Dremel, a little shaping and sanding and this is what came out of it. I do not see any big changes in building this one. Turbo 4cyl, maybe a bit lower with some aftermarket wheels and tires and some nice paint with two tone interior highlights and finding another kit for all the missing parts.

Now for a massive turbo. Mike

i like it they should of done that with the daytona then the omni all the builds look great chaz Thanks Buddy. This was a basic boring kit and this little conversion allows me to build it almost out of the box with very little deviation from stock and still have a custom model. I do not care very much for these newer cars and hate front wheel drive but this is going to be built stock with the exception of lowered suspension, aftermarket wheels and tires, and my truck conversion. Should go together pretty quickly after I figure the back window out and paint it.

I like where this is going. Also an idea for the window, would the original glass fit if it was flipped up, so what was the original rear edge becomes the new top edge, if it fits it would mean less work on the cab back and give a really custom feature, while showing off the interior

Thanks Buddy. Might be able to use the original glass but it appears a bit small. What I was thinking was a piece of glass cut to just fit inside the body opening. My plan is to run a small square strip of plastic around the inner edge of the body and make a ledge that the glass can set on and I would secure it. In addition I want to make a tonneau cover for the bed, put hinges and dampers on it and open it to display a wood bed. That hole in the roof is for a sunroof but the kit only has a plastic slug that goes in it. I will fit a piece of glass in that opening and put hinges to have it popped open. Next step is to build the motor.

Thanks Oscar. It just kind of came to me and has morphed into this in a bit over a 48 hour period. Going to hit a block when it comes time to make a back window and bulkhead but I have some ideas. I have absolutely no clue on a color as of yet but it will be a lighter color and the interior will be whatever color and white to two tone the interior out. No other mods planned for the engine or chassis and the interior or what is left of it will be left stock. Going to start on the motor tomorrow.

This looks so cool! It would a lot of work, but I think a porche engine in the back would be killer!

Yeah that would. This is cool though. since I am doing mods on the suspension and body I can leave the drive line alone and just build it stock. makes for an easier build.

I'll be watching this one. I had a kit that was pretty close to this one as a kid and modified the hek out of it. I wasn't as thorough at 19 years old as I try to be now at 48 but pulled it off ok I guess:

Looking good so far. Reminds me of the Dodge Rampage I drove in High School. Car was originally brown but we painted it orange with a black top. Now that I think about it it was kind of weird driving a car that was painted to match the rival high school. Fun little car, but I outgrew it.

Kind of along the lines of this one? I just completed it for an upcoming show. I like yours. It looks cool with all that motor sticking out in front.

Maybe it was the Rampage? It all happened by accident. I had a scrap Daytona body just sitting on the bench. I moved some things and a stack of decals on top of my little radio slipped and they came down along the back of the roof of the Daytona. When I went to move the decals I noticed the body with the back of the roof covered. That's when I got this idea. At first I was not too sure about it but I warmed up to it and really like it now. I cannot wait to see how this one turns out!

Yeah it looks great so far! The Rampage was a neat little car. For those who are unfamiliar it was almost like a mini El Camino or Ranchero. It was based off of the Daytona/Charger, mine had a 2.2L 4 cylinder non turbo, front wheel drive, and a 5 speed manual trans. Problem is this thing is smaller than an S-10 and I weighed about 345lbs when I got my license. Even when I lost the weight It was still a bear to get my 6' 4" frame in the car, I had to press the clutch before I shut the door or my foot was stuck under the pedal.

Decided to cobble up an Omni to keep the Daytona company. I had a junk build so I pulled it apart and did the conversion. I have a good body and chassis to work with so I plan on making up another one and lowering and modifying the suspension and adding better tires and wheels.

Is the gray one the Omni? That looks EXACTLY like my old Rampage. Brings back memories.

Yep, the gray one is an Omni 024. I had a change of heart and decided to cut up an 87 Shelby Charger and turn it into what looks more like a Ute to me. This one has possibilities!!

Nice to see correct side drive too, Les, I must say, when I was stationed in Okinawa back in the 80's, (US Air Force), I did enjoy driving with the right hand side steering. two-thumbs-up-smiley-emoticon Now, don't get me wrong, I had a few - "Whoopsie" moments where I had to get my a$$ on the right side phew-smiley-emoticon BUT, being right handed, using the left hand for shifting was kind of cool. The pedals were still laid out the same, so that helped greatly. smileyCASHS601_zps1c54a9c5
