I'm going to go for steve's car. Obviously it has to be a 2 door coupe so being a fan of german cars...... I want to finish my truck first though, not touched it in too long due to other things happening

Since I'm still waiting on another set of wheels for the truck I got the paint stripped off (it was a really nice candywine colour) and the car dismantled as much as I could without breaking it too badly. When I do the engine bay I'll be going for the clean vw style bay like on a cal looker/golf. Haven't decided on wheels yet but they will be 19's with stretched tyres and a bit of camber on the suspension. It shouldn't be too bad to do on the rear as the suspension has enough separate parts to make cutting coils all it should need. The front will probably be getting the a arms cut off and remounted how I want them. I got the body painted and have removed the original headrests from the seats so I could add some with tv's inside. Sorry about the low quality pics, 40wt bulbs are useless for pics and even worse to work under, lol.

Thanks guys. Well I tried out that velvet nail stuff on the seats and floor late last night. I dont think I'll use it on the seats as it looked a bit naff, however when I soaked it in nail varnish remover to clean it off I found the remover softened the glue on the seats and headrests(the seats have been together at least 20 years) so they came apart really easily then. Going to have to remember that for other rebuilders. Obviously not any use for kits you want to save the paint/chrome on but could be useful if stripping an old built up down. I didn't try it on the glass as I think it will fog up like glue does. So its one step forward and two steps back on the inside

I have no doubt you will make all this work quite well Les.

I've got something else I saw somewhere to try for the perforated leather you get on the top range mercs so hopefully it will work out. I'm going to try that medical tape with the squares on it, but paint it black first then the seat colour, and hopefully a very light sand will bring out the black bits for the look I want.

That sounds very interesting. Anxious to see how that turns out. I found a place to get real scale canvas that makes great vinyl tops, floorboards and seat covers. Can be painted etc. Can be cut to any shape and I'm thinking of trying that on something. I have a couple of builds I really want to put a realistic vinyl top on and this stuff sounds like it would work real well.

Made a start on the foil yesterday. Still have 2 wheel arches, the rear bumper and 1 side window to do. I will be going over the red again now the foil is on, but it looks like too much white just now. I'm hoping I can get away with just masking the lower half and spraying some satin black over the door bottoms and bumpers to tone down all the white. Probably going to brush the grille rather than spraying it so I can clean the excess off afterwards.

Managed to get the engine wired tonight. Typical germans to put the distributor in the middle of the block but it will be completely hidden anyway when I fit the new induction set up.

Thanks guys, I still have to go over them in red so the black is just to get them all one colour as they were a variety of colours after all the paint stripping

I,m with everybody else on those seats, superb job mate, a light polish will also bring off the paint from BMF, as it is real metal, it will only add to the shine on it and not harm it.

Got some time to sit down today. The engine is in, with the belts and fan still to be added. The intake is ready for a little detailing before fitting (but I did find a merc badge which is now fitted) and finally I have started modding the suspension. I have narrowed both front and rear to get the wheels to fit in the arches instead of like this (how they were when I started) and after modding Fuel pipes added and plumbed to the engine (even though most of it is hidden in the bay) the intake with badge on
