Deecee
Thanks! The paint is Dupont Chromabase BC auto paint over Tamyia fine gray primer. The clear coat is Dupont Acrylic Trim and Jamb Clearcoat. I buffed down the primer before spraying the paint. I think I sprayed 4-5 coats of paint and 3-4 coats of clear. Just can't decide how to do the chassis, show or stock?

Sanding the primer is a very important step a lot of people don't do, also between clear coats too, makes a big difference, which really shows, good job. I reckon, with a shine like that, you should do the same underneath, stock is boring personally. Do it justice mate. Will be watching.. popcorn-and-drink-smiley-emoticon

I agree with DC - give it all the goodies! Maybe keep some steelies for rims or something if you want that stock vibe, but for sure, it's a RoadRunner!!! Love the paint, this thing pops as it is now, cannot wait for more!

Thanks for the kind words. I've never done a show car chassis before. Taping off the frame so I don't get the other color of paint on it looks like a ( use your own words here ). I am going to decal it sometime in the next week then add more clear. I still need to give the top of the hood another coat of paint plus paint the engine bay tanks and batteries. I also need to tape off the body to prep for Alclad chrome. Never been any good with BMF! It may take me awhile to update this thread as far as progress. So far this is my best paint job I have done on a body and I'm affraid to mess it up, lol.

I knew something would go wrong with this build! Went to decal it, when placing the Road Runner stripe on the side. The printed part of the decal separated from the clear coat carrier. Had small specs of the decal all over. Was able to clean it all off. Contacted Revell for new decal sheet. Not sure if I should just let be as is or try again?

Guys Had another set back with this one. I couldn't leave well enough alone and had to try and make the clear coat better. After letting it sit for a while to cure, I went to spray another coat of clear. I have been using the Dupont Acrylic Trim and Jamb clearcoat A-7480S. lent my can to a friend and went to buy another can. The only can that they had was not Dupont, it was Cromax ACrylic Trim and Jamb clearcoat A-7480S. This is what happened to my nice glossy clearcoat I had. WHat can I do to get the gloss to come back if that is all possible?

What a bummer, it still looks like a great paint job though.i would try a very fine quality polish. I use AUTOGLYM resin polish, or MOTHERS, or Maguires showroom shine, they will make anything shine. Personally, i never mix brands of paint, so much can go wrong.

There was even a search I did on the stuff that showed the Dupont logo with the Cromax logo. I ordered another kit off Evilbay just in case this gets worse. Guess I will start my next mistake!

You can save it. Micromesh the crap out of it. Glaze some clear coat, micromesh it again and lay about three even costs of clear on it and it will shine like New penny!

Ok, I somewhat understand what you are talking about. Forgive me.if this sounds dumb as I am not that knowledgeable in this area. Your talking about using polishing clothes then respraying it with more clear? You mention glaze some more clear on that is where I get lost on it. When I hear glaze something I think of heat glazing. If I am way off base here please let me know. I normally don't clear my paint jobs or use polishing clothes. Most of the time I am lucky to get a ok paint job. This has been my best paint job I have ever done that's why I cleared it.

I used to do wicked paint jobs back when I was a bit younger and had more stamina. Back in them days they offered lousy paint for models and when them micromesh polishing systems came around I started using them. There is no way I would be doing this kind of work these days. I just dont think I build that great of quality cars and just like them to look decent and spend more time bashing and creating wierd stuff. Anyhow, off sublect. Sorry!! What I meant by glazing was a light even coat just to level things out a little. Then bringing it down with the cloths. Re applying some more even coats and polishing. This would give the shine depth and a rich color enhancement. This is as long as the actual paint did not get messed up. Seems like alot of work but I used to try to do this and had some success. I was trying to copy a guy I new back in the day who painted models with so much shine and depth you could measure it with a ruler. Absolute mirror finishes. I NEVER had one turn out that good but they were nice. Paint is not my thing anymore but I love repairing damaged bodies and making them right on model cars. That is my forte. Anyhow, Just though a comment from the cheap seats might lend a differnt angle for you! Chas.

Santa Chas
Thanks for the info, I will give it a try. Everyone has different terms for things. What you all call Micromesh/Polishing clothes I call it sandpaper. I know its the same thing but my brain starts thinking there is something else I don't know about. Thanks again!

Tubbs That makes two us! Haven't had any time to work on it other than spraying some high gloss clear lacquer from DupliColor.

If you use sandpaper, don't put anything courser than about 3000 grit wet/dry, ( or what i use on clear coats is worn out 2000 grit wet ) it is too hard to polish out the little scratches, looking forward to when you do get time to finish it mate.

I ended up using a polishing kit that started with 2400 and went up to 12000. I did have to do a small brush touch up with some paint due to burning threw the clear before applying the gloss. I will buff it down slightly then give it another gloss coat. We shall see what happens. Once I get time to work on it. I was hoping to have it done for a club meeting this Saturday, but thats not going to happen. Maybe next month!

I am going to get one of those polishing kits. they have them at Hobby Lobby. my painting has really gotten terrible. don't know why, I have more stripped models then the crazy horse on a Saturday nite.
time, the one thing that is free and nobody seems to have any of. keep pushing, you'll get it done.

Make sure to use their 40% off coupon. I think they are charging 8.95 for it. I wish I had seen that before I went to another well know hobby shop. I ended up paying 12.95 for the same kit, lol.

I have noticed that hobby lobby has quit a selection of modeling supplies. that combines with a 40% off is a good combo. now they have to get strip styrene in and I will be set.

I have a few issues with Hobby Lobby here. I have made suggestions about holding a model contest in store to bring in new business and to see if we could get a club here in town. Manager is not interested in helping his own store seems like. The closest club I have to drive 45 minutes away. I don't have a problem with that just would like one closer.

we have one about 20 minutes from where we have our meetings and the manager there was kind enough to let us put a flyer by the models for our club. i don't think it's a store policy, probably an individual thing. I hear what you are saying, i'm lucky and have 2 model clubs close to me.
