I hate wheelie bars, and for good reason. These aren't going to line up and I doubt I'll get the twist out..... grrrrrr

Stole the intake / valve covers from the 67' Impala street machine. They both had big blocks, so it dropped on and this is much sexier than a carbed setup.

looking good so far Is the body airbrushed or spray can? Thanks ! Airbrush w/ createx auto air and wicked. Haven't cleared yet, still trying to decide if I want to stay with urethane or try lacquer. It's formulated for automotive urethane, but I can't spray that stuff in my basement lol !

(seriously, I didn't know they made anything else except the chrome the military modelers use on P-51's) That stuff looks good too. Damn, now my wife will have another reason to kill me....

I have found over the years it's easier to get forgiveness than permission...lol Nah, my wife watches HGTV. Any attempt to get one past her will escalate into a trip to Home Depot, a massive bill, and a new list of "honey do's' for me ! forehead-slap-smiley-emoticon

Alright bud. I tried spraying auto air color paints on my wagon and it was a huge disaster. Well it was just the hood...but still. Can you share the steps you use? I have a few bottles and I'd like to start using them as the colors seem great.

Alright bud. I tried spraying auto air color paints on my wagon and it was a huge disaster. Well it was just the hood...but still. Can you share the steps you use? I have a few bottles and I'd like to start using them as the colors seem great. Dang, sorry it turned out bad. I can tell ya right now, my painting skills are hit or miss, but here we go: 1) Primer - plasticote works for me, and I scuff it lightly before I spray the color so it gets some bite. 2) Auto Air - I'm a 2% milk kinda guy when it comes to reducer - and I use windshield wiper fluid to cut it with. (Wicked colors has it's own reducer, so far that's all I've tried w/ those) 3) Airbrush - Paasche Talon .38mm gravity feed and a beat up old Paasche D500 comp. (think it hits about 35psi tops) 4) The thing I've learned with auto air, especially the pearls and iridescent colors, is that you have to lay it down in mind numbing light coats ! If you think your not getting enough coverage then stop, cause your doing it right. You can't spray it through a garden hose like some other stuff, it needs to build up layers. AND it has to dry between coats. It doesn't take more than 15min to air dry, but a lot of guys use heat guns / hair dryers, etc.... I use a infrared heat lamp to warm up the spray booth area and the auto air sets up great in about 5min. Once you get the color you want, your good. You don't have to go for a "wet" coat on the final run, as it dries opaque anyhow. Your just looking for consistency, no runs, boogers, and no pigment puddling. 5) Clear - this stuff is formulated for automotive urethane clears. I used to shoot Diamont on it and it was friggin amazing ! But it's expensive in small quantities and not home airbrush booth friendly at all. You don't want that crap catalyzing in your lungs, which is why I don't mess with it anymore. I've tried enamel with ok results, and am going to give lacquer a shot next. (don't even bother with acrylic clear, it won't refract enough light to get the pigments to pop) Havent tried minwax urethane yet, but it's on the list. 6) Almost forgot - base coats. Just like House of Color candies, whatever you shoot for a base coat will highly effect your final color / effect. Gold, silver, white, black (for chameleon colors) etc... Also, this is for Auto Air / Wicked colors only. That other Createx stuff is formulated for T-shirts and will slough right off a plastic model like peeling skin. Plus it does not mix with the auto air / wicked. (my understanding tho is the auto air / wicked will mix well with each other) Hope this helps, like I said, it's hit and miss for me !

Thank you very much, mike. I'm going to look for time to practice on scrap as of course, I should have in the first place. I was laying the white base coat and it seemed too thin. It was puddling up and running, but then again, I laid on a couple of wet coats. Probably a bad idea to begin. Thanks again.

I love the bow-tie ... two-thumbs-up-smiley-emoticon Thanks ! As for rattle cans, I still like them, but the airbrush is a finer spray and more consistent. My luck with cans has been "two great coats, then one big ass booger splotches onto the third !" forehead-slap-smiley-emoticon
