I needed to get away from the wagon for a little bit. I'm looking to build something that might not take so much time. Something to get me fired up or excited to finish it.
So I'm starting this 63 Continental. In some of my last purchases, I've gotten ahold of many of the old AMT continentals, 61-66, I believe. A mix of hardtops and convertibles. Most of them are gluebombs and will need stripping and possibly some parts replaced. I already placed an order with Modelhaus last month to get some of those parts. Did the 62 in tan. Don't know if you guys remember it. It was a quick rebuild.
Here is this one. Still has the original price tag on the box. $.99 oh man I wish! I took it apart and seems that most of the stock parts are there.
I forgot to take a picture of what it looked like prior to disassembling (I keep forgetting to do that with these rebuilders). But here it is while I was cleaning her up. A corner of the rear broke off. Glued it back into place and it was ready for primer.
More cleanup coming up. Of course the repaired piece still showed the crack so I did a thin layer of putty to, hopefully, cover it up.
I put it in the custom/lowrider section because I can't get myself to go all stock. Plus on this one, the wheels were damaged. melted almost right into the tire. Soooo. I have these caddy sombrero hubcaps that I really like. I think that stance will work. Those there are the masters for resin ones I make. Prepped a couple of sets. Some Alcladd Chrome is next on them. Those are Modelhaus tires btw.

This is awesome with the suicide doors!
Sure is different from the box art though huh? Those tail lights on the box art are weird to for a 63 Lincoln, kind of glad yours are not like those little bullets.
Seeing this makes me want to build an older car I think.....

Cool car, there was one used to be used for a wedding car local to me and I remember it being huge. The suicide doors always had me staring when I seen it

Thanks.
Tom, the box art is actually a generic one that was used for many of these customizing kits. You were only able to tell what kit it really was by the pic on the side of the box.
Suicide doors are pretty cool on these old cars.

Thanks Paul. I wet sanded the body. The putty did its job. Here it is after some wet sanding. I was going to keep the interior as it was but I de idea to strip as well. Working on picking a color and disassembling the engine as well. I'm not sure I really like the engine. What would be a good believable swap?

The swap would depend if your going traditional or modern. Myself I would try and keep it ford, but anything would be believable, a ford boss hemi would be wild and believable as a big car needs a big engine

Thanks Stitch and DC. Last night I airbrushed white as a base color but it's growing on me. I might end up leaving that way. With the chrome it should look pretty nice. Sanding and clearing should tell later this week. thinking-hard-smiley-emoticon

Thanks Sharp. It was my first thought as well but way too many black ones already. My collection of built up needs something classic. Can't go stock without the right wheels but I think the bmf will really pop. I laid a couple more layers of white last night. Some more sanding and a wet clear coat and we'll see how it looks. If all else fails, back to black.....or light blue. Heehee

What about a cool 2 tone, white and charcoal metallic gray?

I decided to go all white. I saw DeeCee's Wedding rod in this week's cruise and I love the idea. Interior will be black on this one though. Here it is cleared, and a quick mock-up. I think it's going to look pretty good...but I'm not an expert so dont take my word for it.

I think the white looks good, makes it look a bit more regal (couldn't think of the correct word but almost rolls royce style)

I always liked this style Lincoln and you are doing a great job on this one. They always look good in white. Keep going like you are Ice.

One of my favorites. White is the color I picture these in. You made a good choice. Continental kits seem rare as hen's teeth. If you find another one of this generation I'd be interested in buying it.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the kind words.
Sid - PM me. I have a few 60s Continental kits that I might be willing to let go if you don't mind some re-builders.

How do you foil the bumpers and other such parts? Can you use a single piece of foil or does it need to be cut up?

Oh I didn't foil the bumpers bud. The chrome ws just still that good. If I ever to chrome, I use Spaz Stix or Alcald but none on this one except for the wheels.
