So I decided I needed a different backdrop for when I take pics. I'm tired of seeing my neighbors houses in the background lol. I've decided to make a garage diorama....I know, I know. Not very original. What I'm going to do is make it double sided. Will have both the interior and exterior. That gives me two different scenes. Went out to the train shop and bought some styrene and wood to get the walls started. Had this board laying around and I figured it was the perfect thickness and not too heavy. Still need to trim it just a little bit. Here are the exterior walls. Started making the wood frame behind it too. Painted the walls dark red and took some test shots with lighting from different angles. I think it's going to work out perfectly. Keep in mind that these pics were taken before the weathering and washes were applied. Here are pics of the wall after the first black wash. Top is before and bottom is after. Do you guys think I need a few more washes?

I don't know. Looks pretty good what you've done. Guess it depends on how weathered you want it? Are you on Scale Auto Mag? There is a thread on it under "Automotive Dioramas" titled "Garage Dio" by Dannyi. Shows how he made his own brick walls and washed/weathered them. It is quite impressive. I'll post the link below, I hope it works. Maybe it will help you out, at the least it is an interesting read. cs.scaleautomag.com/sca/modeling_subjects/f/39/t/93016.aspx

I remember that thread. Dannyi does some outstanding work. I actually bought some of the light shades from his store on eBay. I ran out this morning to get some browns and oranges. Apparently I didn't have any in my paints.
Thanks Skip and JP. Well see how it comes along.

Ok worked a little bit on this. Got the main door and the garage door cut and fit. Doors just taped on. Plan to make the garage door a working door. An example pic and nice young lady from the Fast Women group. I think I got the right idea here

Well I say there now, that is looking pretty spiffy. You gonna put some signage and maybe exterior lighting? Staying tuned on this as I'm liking it.

Sure am. Want to take my time on this one because its a big diorama that I don't want to half a$$ if you know what I mean. All I had time today for was to cut kt to the size i wanted and lay the plaster for the exterior. Its 32" x 15". Now I chose this size because the craftsman shelves where I have my stash is this size. It will allow me to display/store there. The plaster is supposed to turn white when it's completely dry. The other side will be the interior. Still haven't decided on the floor for the interior.

The plaster all dried up and on the shelf where it will be displayed/stored. Need to sand it so it has a few less bumps and then paint it gray.

P.S. Are any of those kits for sale?

Ha! No problem. It's like a kid in a candy store. I saw lots of kits and had to ask.

While ideas are voted on for my Santa's gift build and other builds are drying I decided to work on this one again. Folks talking about dioramas reminded me I hadn't worked on this since the last time my son was here. So the walls went up along with the yellow concrete posts. Want to try and prevent crazy drivers from knocking down the walls or doors. The sign is up. Woo-Hoo!! The owner looks a bit pale still. Lol. He's hoping this venture pays off. Looks like a billboard will be going up soon as well. Last, this is a pretty dark corner so primered the light shades to install lighting in the next few days. Will move on to the inside and get closer to the grand opening.

Thanks everyone. I had ran out of wood so it had just been sitting there still closed. I just bought more on Thursday, I just haven't started yet. Found a resin bathroom set.....I know it's a bit silly, but when you gotta to, you gotta go, so I want to make sure these mechanics have a place to go. Lol. I think this might give me the opportunity to build a separate room above that. Storage maybe. Office? Still looking for ideas on the web.

Funny, I was just wondering the other day what you were doing with this diorama. Hadn't seen anything with or about it lately. Nothing silly about putting in a bathroom. But then again, I have what may be some silly and bizarre things I want to do with my diorama when I get going on it, so you probably shouldn't be taking advice from me.
