I really had no intention of participating, but I was gifted this model from a guy cleaning out his basement and figure to give it a try if its not too late. And yes I know I've only got about a month to finish it. I've never built a rod before either, and the fact that this thing is FWD doesn't help, but I'm willing to try. Oh yeah, did I say it was free! Open box with no instructions, but that won't matter anyway. Don't quite know where I'm going with it but, what they hey!

That has soooo much potential mate, drop a small block, and a diff in it, and "PRESTO", you will have an AWESOME hot rod.

I took your advice deecee and decided to stick a small block in it. I have a Chevy 302 from the 69 Z28 kit although I'd like to use tunnel ram or a blower instead of the crossram. I also found candidates for wheels and tires. I found a drop axle from a for truck but I have to section it to bring the tires in a bit. I want to lose the side fins but then I would have to build a cowl and grille. Decisions, decisions.

Go for it mate, a 32-34 grill would look hot too, you already have something different, why not make it a "special different". Those wheels look pretty cool on it too.

Ah, this looks better, and it's sitting on the ground. I'll have to go with the hemi and that means the Dart gets built with the 440. Which is cool too. Whoops, forgot the pic of the unbuilt engine. Anybody need a crossram?

I agree the hemi engine looks more to scale.

A couple of minor updates. I decided to replace the entire floorpan to get the tranny hump in. I tried to just fit the tunnel in but royally screwed up the measurements. This worked out better anyway. I'm eliminating the back seats, thus the styrene in their place. Did a first prime after filling in the headlights and exhaust ducts. I have some finishing to do but it came out pretty well.

Problem is many Monogram kits were 1/24, hence a bit large. I'd go with a "BIG BLOCK>" It'll look just right. I'm a bit sad to see a classic hot rodded, but it's often done, though it usually involves a lotta changes, from engine to suspension/frame to wheels and tires. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I think the guy that gave me the kit was a bit taken aback when I told him what I was doing with it as well. And yes, it does involve a lot of changes unless one wants to keep it FWD, which I don't. I own a FWD and frankly don't care for them as performance cars.

Well with the deadline fast approaching I want to give my latest update. I finished the bodywork and hope to spray this weekend. Here is the engine pretty much finished except some touchups. Interior is almost done but I have some issues to resolve before posting.

WOW!! There is only one thing better than the small block you had planned, and that's BLOWN HEMI!! THIS WILL MAKE IT STAND OUT, THAT'S FOR SURE, NICE WORK.

Thanks DC. Was able to get some bench time in. Finished most of the interior except for the dash and wheel. I mocked up the tires and wheels with the engine just plopped in.

That is looking great, but, just my opinion...can you get that rear wheel inside the guard, it would clean it up so much better i think.

Thanks knarf and DC. I feel the same way about the rear wheels but my only choice would be to add a section to the rear fenders, but with the time dwindling down to get this done I'm scared to try it since I've never done it before. Narrowing the frame at this point is strictly out of the question unless I decide to throw realism out the window.
