Went to the Billetproof show at Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala Florida this Saturday.
Took a ton of pictures, about 375 worth, and thought some of you might be interested in seeing them.
A little history, my old car club, which has since disbanded, use to be the host club that helps put the show on with the promoter. We did it the first four years.
To show your car it has to be 1964 model year or older. If it is a hot rod or kustom it needs to be built in a traditional style like they would have in the early 1960's or before. rat rods are welcome also within the rules parameters.
The rules get bent sometimes though.
I went with 4 of my car buddies that we have breakfast together every Saturday. Taking 3 vehicles for the show, I rode along with one of them. The bud that I rode with has a '66 Chevy II, but since we know the promoter he allowed it on the field, it just couldn't be eligible for any awards.
OK, enough rabble, on to the show. I will post a pic/link to Photobucket to see all the pics at the end, there are just too many to show all of them on a thread.
The location.
These are the vehicles we went in.
Brother Glenn's '66 Chevy II with 5.3 Chevy truck engine and trans.
Brother Willie's '46 Ford with a 5.3 Chevy truck engine and trans.
Brother John's '47 Chevy 2 door sedan....yeah that's what it used to be. Also has a modified 2.3 turbo 4 cylinder and 5 speed trans from an '80's Ford T-bird Turbo Coupe.
The bike is for when the Ford breaks down.
This '36 belongs to another friend who does Saturday breakfast with us occasionally.
This is Don Garlits' little roadster. He was driving it out around the field later in the day.
Some of the cars that turned my crank at the show.
This one has been around the area for several years and I have always liked it.
I'm always a sucker for a '62 Vette, especially like this one.
Then this one really got me.
Then there are the pin-up girls roaming around with a photographer taking pics with random cars/trucks.
Also some vintage campers down in the back field.
Oh yeah!...This atrocity was out in the parking lot of the museum. Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but there are times a person needs to hear the truth.
Maybe a Superbird prototype? Maybe a Superduper Bee?
I'm almost ashamed to admit I took pictures of it. It's all in fun I suppose.
The trophies that get presented.
All the trophies are made by volunteers, either an individual or a car club. They get pinstriped and such at the show, before the awards at the end of the day.
The first two were made by a couple friends I know.
The Jive Bomber Award...you will never see other shows where one gets excited winning a trophy for the worst car at the show, it's like a badge of honor.
A link to a slide show?
YES! YES! It worked. My first slide show posted. I learned something tonight.
Check it out folks.
