Guys, Some model....Completed like 27 years ago, this one pre-dates my General Lee! I took an entire year to build this one! I took 2 of this one truck and made what your about to see. The tractor has a multitude of working lights, and it plays the radio while atthe same time you can hear the roar of the CB blaring away too. the bunk, has a "red" light in it for laughs.... The trailer? 100% scratchbuilt, thee only factory parts? the tires and rims, as well as the mud flaps! I took this to a rather intense show once, and this show had a serious and I mean SERIOUS contest, I was scared as I was standing in line to register to see what was going by that had entered. ALL 18 wheelers..... I don't have this model today. BUT I do have the ribbon I got from that contest, and spent $500 nicely! I got 1st place, for the type truck, 1st place flat bed trailer. 1st place 2 models combined, and best of show over all..... I never thought it do it, but really, this truck does EVERYTHING but run! ALL the lights work, turn signals, headlights, amber marker lights all tail lights EVEN the BRAKE lights worked on a momentary switch.....CRAZY stuff... I wish I still had this one. Only way I'd do it again, is if I could cough up a Western Start from the late 80's! More if any one is interested to see!!!! ENJOY

Is there any thing you cant make a good model of Hemi? That looks awsesome and only the tyres are kit parts, I guess you mean on the trailer and not the whole truck? Is this the truck you drove?

Is this the truck you drove? yeah man, just the trailer is scratchbuilt, and yes only tires and rims and the mud flaps are factory parts..... I didn't get to mention, that one big contest? you had to inventory EVERY part on the model........ all said and done, this kit had 5,000 pieces in it. Over 500 links of chain....I think I still have that list somewhere!

I went all out, like i said, I took an entire YEAR to make that happen! Was well worth too. best of show got me $500 for that one ribbon, I think when all said and done, I got $800 from the contest! Stitch, I forgotto mention, no it wasn't this truck, the truck I drove was a '89 Western Star

I dunno I've gotten faster.. 5,000 parts in one model along with that all the damned electronic crap to hide and make all the lightswork, never mind the damned cab speakers and their wires.....Then the damned controls, yeah, it took awhile....All i can say is A LOT of bare wire, painted to look like brake lines......
I mean, back then I never thought to get pics of the wheels but, I even have valve stems with caps!

Thanks guys....It was a lot of work to say the least.... It was something a friend told me about back when I was into big trucks trucks, 18 wheelers more so) but, I thought why not? what did I really have to loose! Sadly, I don't have the ole girl no more... (I wish I still had it) BUT, I did find these old pictures! owhite3: Not that I know of! Sucks, I was to young back then to even think of it, these pictures were taken the day the actual model was "done" I then had to sit down and create a board to sit it on, remember this whole thing is damn near 3 feet long! So with that, if I see ANY pictures of it sitting on a board the one I made for it, to carry/transport it, and to hide all that damned wire that went through the wheels, with a micro plug at the end, it at that time just might be lit up! That be the key tho, the truck itself would have had to been on a wooden board almost like a display base. But I don't recall getting pictures of it lit up. Let me look an see what other pictures, I'll be posting more of it! I have 20 something damn near 30 pictures that I found last night on an old disk! I never did mention how this one was lost! See, after I won that contest, a friend and I (the same guy that told me about it) that said this truck show 18 wheelers only real life ones 1:1 scale, had this intense model contest and he thought, I'd do well there, so I sat out, he found a place that had 2 of these and pointed them out to me and we went and bought them I bought one he bought the other (we were always kind of a team that way, matter of fact hes the same guy that taught me to drive one of these too. Gary. Is a great friend to this very day, altho hes a difficult one to catch! Anyway, after the contest, (was a week long in Denver Colorado), we took my winning model and it went into my old Western Star, and Gary and I went to a local place just outside of town and got our real trucks washed and polished $50. So he says to me, John, why not put that model on the top of the cabinetry of your little kitchenette? Was just the perfect length too. never would have guessed that, and then I wedged a piece of plexiglas in the front of it to the head liner, and the one end, as the other end was against the bunk wall anyway....And there it sat! It rode there, for damn near 2 and half years.....Then just before I went to sell the truck due to laws changing that I had to give up CDL driving being Diabetic, I went to pull it down and when it came down it slide off the board hit the bunk floor and didn't do a lot of damage to it, (all that internal wire I complained about held it together for the most part) and I took it home that way swearing that one day, I'd fix it, and I had it in that shape to about 7 years ago, when I thought I'd never get back into model cars again, the wife says John why do you keep that thing? And like a dumbass, never thought twice I tossed it in a dumpster....... BIG REGRET now! I could damn near cry thinking of that, it brought a lot of good memories..... One thing is certain....... I BET thats the most traveled "model vehicle" known! I bet that truck had 200,000 miles on it, and it never spun a tire!

Thanks Tom.....It carries a lot of good memories, setting here reminiscing on it, is a good feeling, a lot of fun went into that truck..... I can't say I'd ever do it again, BUT if the model such arose that I could grasp it I may do another one....Not sure that the next one will light up but... Be a fun intense detailed to the max build tho. Altho the next one, will have a 600 CAT C-15 in it! AND hopefully is a Western Star 6400 series truck with the large bunk. but I'm NOT holdin my breath on that one!
