Custom painted with auto air and vallejo paints. Clear coated with future floor polish. Everything was done to match the original car. The original 1:1 car was built in 1963 by Carl Casper. Just finished this build.

That is nice, mike. The color is great. Yeah, what color is it over what color base? Thanks Ice!! the paint that I used on this build is called Auto-Air custom automotive paint made for airbrushing. I started by wet sanding with 600 then 1000. I then airbrushed 2 coats of auto-air white sealer, then 2 coats of auto-air white semi-opaque, then 4 coats of auto-air pearl white, then sprayed around the edges with auto-air candy yellow then candy green.then I let it dry for a week, then sprayed 4 coats of future floor polish.

Yes you do have to thin this paint out,on the back of the bottles it says airbrush with a 0.5 needle & tip thin 3:1 but with a smaller needle & tip you will need to thin a little more. When I sprayed this I used a cheap $20 paasche for the sealer, white base & the pearl, then I used a iwata cr for the candy colors

Wicked sweet build Mike. Skippy really likes. I have been practicing with my air brush and gradually trying to use more acrylics. I have been playing with the Wicked line of Createx and been looking at the Auto Air line. They are saying that the Wicked and Auto Air are compatible with each other. I like most of the Wicked colors, but the Auto Air really has a much larger color palate and combination effects. Just need to figure out how I'm going to go about clear coating. Still need to find a clear I like. I noticed you said you used Future floor polish?

Hey Skip, if you go to a store that sells duplicolor paints, they have an acrylic enamel clear in a spray cab that is amazing. Its what I cleared my eBay Nova with and I love it. Sprays nice and smooth and has great gloss. I'll get a pic of the can I have at home for ya!

If you have a Pep Boy's auto parts store around you they sell the whole line of Duplicolor paints.

Thanks for the tip Jesse. I'll look for that. I have O'Reilly's and Advance here that I think both still carry Duplicolor. Dennis, I don't have a Pep Boy's near though. I think the nearest one is 50 miles away down in Tampa.

Thanks Skip,on this build I did use future and it works very well for me, but I also use rust-o-oleum automotive enamel gloss clear and u-pol clear #1 clear coat it works real nice but its almost $20 for a can but its a 450 ml can. I get it from ebay and I think it was free shipping,I only use this on my special builds..lol lol

Guys holly shamolly, help-smiley-emoticon guys................. I been spraying lacquer based ENAMELS over acrylics for 20 plus years! SERIOUSLY! The trick? LET the paint CURE!
NOT just "dry"..to the touch, CURE! If that water based acrylic is CURE it will take ANY overcoat flat, Matte, Semi-Gloss, Gloss, HIGH Gloss..... Lacquer based, Straight Enamel (Mineral Spirits) Alkoyd, (Xylene based) etc....I SPRAY it all with my Air brush, and have YET to find it react badly.....BUT it has to be DRY, the water on the bottom layer, will evap, as long as its not petroleum sealed, this is the reaction that causes "Fisheyes".....OR a weird run or sag.....
I been doin it for a long time and have YET to have a bad paint reaction.....UNLESS the correct amount of time is not followed through with, you will run into this. Otherwise, try it, on scrap plastic, anything paint-able and play, see what works and what doesn't. plastic spoons work GREAT got this! IF they're (the spoons) are primed, you can find different mixes and "looks" to colors you want to use on any one car.....
