I know some of you guys paint outside. In the cold months it makes it hard to catch a good day.
I was in the same boat but didnt want to spen $$ on a built spray booth.
So. I looked around to see what I had in the basement. Heard about using 2 storage containers a few years ago.
But buying a fan for bathrooms and such. More $$.
Here is a cheap way to get you a paint booth for next to nothing.
I started with a 5 gallon container and a shoe box container.
I had a few old electric heaters that didnt blow heat anymore.( Yes I keep stuff)..LOL
Found one that had a round cage around the fan unit.
I then took the heater apart and cut out the fan and cage assembly leaving about a half inch around the cage.
dont worry about wires. cut off at fan leaving enough to reattach electrical wire..and plug.
Take the small shoe box container and draw around the fan cage to get an idea of how big of hole to cut in bottom part of container.
This should be the same size as round part of cage.
cut out with dremmel saw or snips...
check fit and trim where needed.
Keep in mind which way fan was mounted in heater. fan always pulls air from back side.
Mount the fan in the hole you cut in the first step using screws. drywall, or metal screws.
after this is done set top part of small shoe box on bottom part of 5 gallon container. trace around small box with marker.
in center of marks cut an opening about 4 inch by 4 inch though bottom part of big box. over hole use screen from a screen door to cover opening.
This will act as a filter if wanted..
when this is done set small box on big box and screw fast with drywall screws.( pics will explain it better)
Now for window vent. It is a dryer vent tube with flap. 4 inch tube.(about 7 bucks at a hardware.
At flap wrap duct tape around tube to keep together.
For window panel I used 1 inch thick insulation board.. Cut to window opening size.
Cut hole for pipe and slid vent through and screw fast.
there is a lock seam on pipe. pull apart at end you are going to hook to paint booth.
place window panel in opening and close window.
Set paint booth to pipe from vent. Use screws around pipe to attach to fan cage.
Tape (duct tape works well) around tube and connections.
rehook electric wire to fan and a switch. switch from heater will work.
plug in and test. If fan is right will work great.
Mine does and no paint smell.
spray away and let run for a few to draw fumes off body.
Look at pics and it might explain it better.
Total in paint booth. $15.
tubs was free, fan from junk heater, screws from remodeling, vent from hardware.
If you want a turn table in it. Lazy susan from a junk shop works great..
