oh yes sir !! If it doesnt have it well it just doesnt have it. You should note that in your description when you post. Curbside used to be my building style ( no motor, no interior )look forward to seeing it. I should point out that in the beginning all voters were suppose to use the vote sheet ( which is provided on the rules page ) and the bracket race was suppose to be a beauty contest more then a drag race and by using the voting sheet you would have scored different categories without interior yours would have gotten a 0 in that category and would have put you at a disadvantage , but i really dont think anyone uses the sheets or the system. they simply vote for what they like ( which is fine )We just ask that everyone vote for the best model and not just because it was built by a friend.

Well..., I use the sheets. Although I do take some things into consideration, such as what knarf was asking, like if it doesn't have an interior to even have pics of. If it would have an interior and no pics of it I would be more critical because there are no pics to judge it. On the bracket races I use the score sheet and if there is a tie, I will then study the cars themselves as to equipment, etc., and try to determine which one may win an actual race if they were real.

Judging is very difficult! Back in the 90's when I was called on to help judge often, I hated having to nitpick over minor faults on outstanding builds just to come up with a winner. Here I try to judge per to rules outlined when I joined. Judging engine, interior, chassis and body separately (although I don't fill out a sheet persay ). Then make a decision based on the overall package. Then, like Skip, if its a tie which car I think would win a race against each other. This is the way I understood the rules to be. I an entry has no picture of any one of the required areas they get zero points in that area. I do think that curbside should be taken into account but shouldn't get a total pass in that area.

Right, I agree with both of you ( Skip and AK ). The sheet was from an old show that I judged years back. I know it by heart so when I judge a car on our site I just grab a sheet of scratch paper and write down 4,3,4,2,1 what ever the scores are then total. If I can tell it was built as a curb side i am not as critical, but if it is going against a car that has an excellent interior I have to give the points to the car with the interior (something like 3 vs 5 ). If I run into a tie in MOTM I start looking at how realistic is it and by that I mean , could it function as a real car. For bracket race ties I look at which do I personally think would win if real drag cars and for that I rely on years of drag racing. I know that a pro street car is made to look like a pro stock drag car but in now way runs as fast and a car with high HP and a blower would fry a set of 8 inch cheater slicks. So yea i use the sheet but rely on my knowledge

AK and Beast, sounds like we are all on the same page with how we judge. I wonder though how many others are.

True, I think most vote for what pleases the eye. I dont think you will every get everyone to vote the same way or not be influenced by the car being from a friend. That is why for the anniversary contest I am bringing in celebrity judges who all have knowledge of both cars and models but do not have any stack in this site.

That's the best way to handle it. I know from attending model shows and knowing a lot of modelers over the years that some folks won't even walk over to the table and look at the models that aren't of a subject they like. Which is pretty sad because they miss out on so much! Even when I exclusively built and drove Mopars (models and 1:1 cars) I had friends that drove other makes of cars and trucks and built other types of models too. We all enjoyed each others work and learned from one another. AK

I honesly vote for the one that I think looks better. I don't vote for "a friend". If there's something that pops out at me and looks more realistic than that will more than likely catch my eye and my vote

I know what you are saying AK. Some people can be so biased to one particular thing that they can't look at anything else and at least note the redeeming qualities of other subjects, qualities which could be taken and applied to what their main interest is.
As far as judging, even when you apply a scientific approach to it, personal biases can still creep in. It's just human nature. I just try to be aware of my human nature and over rule it as much as I can. It can be difficult sometimes.

Yes Cowboy I would agree and i use alittle of my drag racing knowledge to work those out, but plastic is plastic and what do you do when the person building the model is telling you aaaa its a 672 ci mountain motor with three shots of nos and its putting 1800hp to the wheels. Well i roll my eyes of course...we can say anything but it doesnt make the model any better. Also if I pull the motor out of a funny car an stick it into a Yugo with stock rear end and tires I can promise you it wont turn 5's like that funny car will. I was in a bracket race that was drag cars, I was the only guy who brought a top fuel railer ( et avg 4.9 ) and I lost in the first round to a car that looked more pro street then drag car! But thats how everyone voted so what can you do !
