ok, i'm gonna throw my entry up before i lose another idea due to hesitation. had this for awhile and now is the time to build it  incidentally, does anyone know the formula to calculate the correct scale sizes for the detailing? i.e. wires, hardlines etc  and this much work has been done when i got it   probably gonna be box stock except for that exhaust  |

Bout time you jumped in Frank. I was beginning to think you were avoiding this contest. Haven't seen this kit in a while. I don't know the formula off the top of my head but if you google scale calculator you should find some that can help.

I reckon if it looks right, it is right enough mate, i find if i get too "nitpicky" with that sort of stuff, i lose interest and enjoyment.
That will be a sweet looking IROC i reckon Frank.

thanks guys "eyeball measurement" is what i normally go with too. as for the paint...i've always like yellow IROCs the best  |

If I'm not mistaken you got a big scale general Lee a few weeks back I'd guess them plug wires with that kit should give you a good idea. Very cool choice by the way I don't think I've ever seen this kit before.

sorry for the lack of progress here guys. i did start on some bodywork and found that i'm missing one of these(for the passenger side)  it goes here  and so i've been constipating on the best way to scratch-build one. hence the lack of progress :/ i have however started layin down some putty and primer  more coming |

The scale of the kit ( 1/16 th) means its has a ratio of 1:16. So 1 divided by 16 equals .0625. Multiply .0625 by what the full sized part is and this will give you the scale equivalent. So if you want scale 8mm plug wires, multipy 8mm x .0625 = .5mm. now to convert mm to english (for those on this side of the pond) .5 divided by 25.4 which equals .019 thousands.

I'm a machinist by trade and do calculations like this all the time, only trouble is sometimes I over complicate things. Duh! After I posted the formula I would use I realized fhat all you have to do is divid by the scale. 8 mm plug wires measure .315 so divid .315 by 16 and you get the same answer .0196 |

Or if you're across the pond, 8mm divided by 16 = .5 mm This is kind of how I thought of it from your first formula. Don't get me wrong, your first formula is true math, I LIKE IT! (I was a machinist in trade school as well - plus have always messed around with Trig / Physics, etc)
But all I could see in my head was, 8mm (8) - 1/16 scale (16) since it would take 2x8 to make 16, just split that in half (.5) Strange brain, I know, but hey - GREAT MINDS THINK IN DIFFERENT FORMULAS!!!

A lot of the time I eye ball the details on my models....so long as it's close enough that it doesn' t look out of scale, it's okay. Often I see plug wires on model cars that if you measured the dia. and multiplied it to full scale I think they would wind up measuring 1/2" or more! It's all okay, I just think I'd leave them off if they looked that far out of scale! just my 2ยข.
