It's getting cold down here also but we don't see snow every year. When we do it melts before the day ends and throughout the time it is on the roads people forget how to drive. Accidents at every corner.

At first I thought that was a pic of a Tasmanian UFO flying over your street, but then I realized it was about the snow. (the hanging basket) Yeah, the chilly air has hit us about a month early here in my part of Floriduh. We're supposed to see it get just to freezing overnight in a couple days from now.

I feel ya JB - a lot of my wife's family is in Iowa. We go there yearly - plus my daughter lives in Dubuque. Even though we have lived here in Oklahoma for years now - it has been so dam cold this week - coldest on record. Normally we are in the 60's here - but we are to get a dusting of the white crappers ourselves tomorrow. And Skip is right, LOOK OUT MAN!!! THERE IS A SPACESHIP RIGHT ABOVE YOU!!!

Oh Skip, that cracked me up bud! Its been in the 20's for a little over a week now. One day it was 64° then by 6pm that night it was 30° and hasn't warmed up since. This is the first real snow so far, and supposed to be back up to 40° by the end of the week!

I've been in Houston 30 yrs now but I was born and raised in Quincy, Illinois on the Mississippi river. The river is over a mile wide there. Magnificent thing to see. We had snow and ice all winter long. My kids used to razz me when I would talk about life on the farm [we owned a 350 acre farm] and they would say "yeau and I bet you walked 2 miles to school every day in the snow". Well after we moved into town, 1500 population, by God I did walk 2 miles to school every day in the snow. They don't believe me.

here in Orkeny its a toasty 52f but then we have the wind chill blowing off the sea. Its the wind chill that thats the temperature killer here. It blows in from the north sea and the atlantic and the first thing to slow it is Orkney. Snow rarely lies for long though since the air is so salty but the ice likes to hang about til feb. Its not too bad if you stay inside (the walls are 4foot thick on the older houses)

The older houses up here are built from stone. Pretty much the same way as castles Big D. My mums house is about 200 years old but has been modernised quite a lot over the years. The houses in the pic of the post office on my truck thread are a little younger, but that stone building is an old salt store and is about the same age as my mums. They have to be strong due to the wind in winter, At some point there will be winds of a constant 80mph for at least a month and the front door will be sandbagged as the sea is only 2 road lanes away. You get used to it but its not good for swimming, lol. I'll get some pics when the wind starts as its only about 40 now (a breeze). The rain is about 1 and half inch a day just now.

I looked you up Stitch. Lot of islands there. Interesting country, formations like Stonehenge, fur seals and penguins, very rugged country but beautiful at the same time. Which island are you on and close to what town?

I live in Kirkwall, but most of the time I'm in a village called St Marys. I haven't seen any penguins though it is cold enough. There's two lots of Islands called the orkneys. You must have seen the ones in the South Atlantic, they have penguins. And a lot of the same place names.

They do say about Orkney that you scratch the ground and find another piece of history. Archeologists love it here and are always digging somewhere in the summer

Uh oh CC lol. We got about 3-4 inches. Even though its cold out its still melting well! I hate snow and the cold lol. Its just gonna get colder though and I'm not ready yet! Just now stopped freakin snowing! Had to clean off the Pilot and Ram, shovel the driveway and porch. THIS IS SO UNREAL - I moved to Oklahoma about 15 years ago to escape long, cold winters, would seem the S#*T followed me! We must have got about 4-5 inches!! I never remember us getting winter so fast here. Hey Ice - you need to hook me up with your realtor - I just may tell Steve to let me run our Brady, TX terminal from down your way!!! LOL - But this is so insane!!!
Stay warm JB - I hate the cold as well - but I think we may be headed for a long hard winter!!!

Don't get any here in Houston but once in a great while and when it does snow people here don't know how to drive in it and wipe each other out like flies on the freeways. I've been in Chicago and the thing I remember the most is the wind coming off that lake. They don't call it the "windy City" for nuthin'.

John, that's funny. When I went to bed at 10:30 last night, nothing, when I went to leave for work at 5:25 this morning, 3 inches of snow on the ground and still snowing. I bet we got another inch before it finally quit. Luckily it should allelt this weekend, supposed to be 50-60°.
