A 1200 degree fire. Just kidding, that would melt the plastic too. Really, I use Purple Power degreaser, but you can use oven cleaner or Wesley's Bleche-Wite tire cleaner. You can get the Purlple and the Bleche-Wite at the auto parts store and I think Walmart. The Bleche-Wite may not be Wesley's anymore but Black Magic brand. Get a container large enough to put the parts you want to strip and fill it with the Purple Power or Bleche-Wite and soak the part overnight. Use a soft tooth brush to help loosen up the paint that may not want to rinse off. When the paint is off, rinse well with water. Sometimes I soak it in water over night if I have time to let it. This is the fastest way I have found that won't damage the plastic. Here's a link to a thread in the "How To" section on paint stripping. jerryscherrys.freeforums.net/thread/563/paint-stripping

funny purple powers is what I was using, the paint was thick so I guess that's why it took 2 days.

I have several painted models and want to strip all the paint from the bodies. What works best and fast. I have some old lift off but it takes a long time and multiple applications. Is there something better? Thanks for any help! Chas.

I use Purple Power that I bought at dollar general for about $6 for a gallon. Depending on the paint it takes 24-48 hours to come pretty dang clean. Walmart also sells it. A lot of people swear by Easy-off oven cleaner with the yellow cap, but the fumes may be a bit much for some people.
I'm sure others will chime in!

Purple works great. I do use Easy Off and does wonders in 24 hrs. It even de-chromed parts. Have used it for the Revell engine packs.

I use bleach for chrome removal, takes about 15 minutes. Purple power takes chrome off too but takes much longer.

Thanks for the GREAT tip on paint removal. My testimonial, Purple Power ROCKS. I am on my fourth complete model body of a Dodge truck. I have stripped three already since Saturday night. The first one was maroon and the paint all came off right down to the white plastic. The other two were red and everything came off but the red pigment is still in parts of the body and interior tubs. I am doing a yellow one right now and will be checking the results in the am before work. This was much easier than the lift off I used before to remove paint. Just an FYI, I tried the easy off and this worked better with the Purple Power. You guys helped me a great deal, Thanks a bunch!! Chas.

One thing i have noticed on here, is just how quick everybody seems to throw a build in the "purple pond", this i can not understand as the recent few have still been pretty good, over all the years, the only thing i throw in the soup is an old glue bomb that i would like to rebuild. If i stuff up a paint job, which does happen a bit, its usually a matter of blocking it back and re shoot some more paint. Generally, stripping is only required if there has been a bad reaction from the undercoat, or between different paints. Is this something that everybody has been told is the best way to do it, or has everybody done it because some one else did it.? Please don't get me wrong, i am not saying this wrong or anything, i am more than curious though, as down under, not many of us do it.

The only body I've stripped so far was my Anniversary build, because the was a reaction between coats. I'm going to strip my eBay build because there was a reaction after I clear it the second time like there was still a ton of paint thinner in the brush. When I spray on the acrylic paint some spots turned white while drying. So I figured a fresh start was in order lol.
Even when I get some wrinkles from lifting after the first coat over primer, I usually just sand it down and shoot it again.
That's why I'm doing it DC lol.

Don't you just hate it when paint reacts with each other, WHY couldn't they just make a good universal type of paint? ? We would all be happy then. That is why i only ever use automotive acrylic paint now days, because i had so many dramas with different model paints not working with each other, so i thought "STUFF IT", i will use what i know works from now on. Hope your next paint job works for you J,

Haha, me too DC! I generally try to stick to one brand if I am doing multiple colors on one body, tends to cut down on the screw ups.

Stripping is for err well ummm YEAH those types, I agree with Dale, block it, after cure time is met, and go at it again, WET SANDING also goes a L-O-N-G ways too!
IF I have to strip, ELO "Easy Lift Off" (was once made by Polly Scale, now owned by Testors) works well (Local Hobby Shop purchase) OR Pine Sol, the REAL stuff, NOT anything other then the actual "Pine-Sol" cleaner, soak till its loose KEEP container car or part is in covered the smell of pine in cleaning with it is fine BUT it gets freakin strong after about a day!
This Purple stuff, whats the full name and what company makes it? I'll give it a whirl!

Here's the stuff I buy and use IMG_20140817_025534_257 by ratrodfanbobcat, on Flickr It's about $5 for a gallon and can be found in the automotive section at Walmart and various other stores. There is also Castrol Super Clean, which is a purple jug and about $7-8 a gallon and found in the same place.

I use it mostly to dechromed parts but I think it will work on paint also. I just out the part, or body in your case, and spray it desire rely on it. A few good thick coats. In about 30 minutes rinse it and wash it with soap and water. If needed repeat. Try on a spare body first. You don't want to mess up the caddy.

Honestly it's all I know to do is try. Because that purple power messed it up anyhow only other option I would have is to try and sand the body down. It pulled the paint off in spots so it's never going to look right unless I can fully strip it.

i use Mr Muscle oven cleaner which is what easy off is sold as this side of the pond. I put the item in a zip lock bag and seal it for an hour or until you see the oven cleaner changing colour, and sometimes it will need a second go.I use an old toothbrush for small parts or a nail brush for bigger parts Wear gloves and a mask though cos it hurts the throat. I've only used it on enamel paint though i read somewhere its not so good on some primers and acrylics.

Yup. I think any oven cleaner will work. I only found the Walmart brand this past week and it worked the same.

In my many years making model trains and custom painting them....I've used something called "ELO" its from Testors, REMOVES EVERYTHING right to bare plastic and don't harm the plastic. ELO means Easy Lift Off and was once a Polly S paint product so it will ALSO remove acrylic enamels too without issue...
Honestly, I have yet to find anything it can't remove!
