Well I just couldn't wait until today so late last night I opened up the kit and started. The last few days I'd been looking at pics and doing research to see which way I wanted to take it. Decided to start chopping away....literally. Here is a little bit of work I did last night. Should have a mock-up tonight First I detached the bed from the rail. Removed the front wheel well. This pic shows the first one off. Removed the "lip" on top of the bed and shortened it by about 1.5 ft in scale. Here's the before and after And holy crap, I shopped the cab. A scale 8-9 inches. Here are some before and after pictures. (Sorry for the blurry pics. I was pretty tired by this hour) The cutting up was the easy part. Blending it all in is where my personal challenge is. I glued a very thing piece of styrene inside the cab and then inserted extra pieces of left over plastic in the gap to use less putty. Filled it with as much glue as I could get into the leftover small gaps. And that's pretty much as much late night work as I could take. It was a little after 1am when I stopped. Today my family has left to run some errands so I am heading back down to the bench in a little bit.

Thanks guys. I had the JB weld but ran out and haven't had the chance to get more so had to improvise. It's great when I have time to myself to focus of this hobby. So starting to put the bed together. You'll also notice I rounded the read ends of the panels. Added thin layer of putty to the cab and did a quick mock up. Can't decide if you use the hood or not. Sanded the cab and primed it to check it. Now too bad but a few rough edges still.

I like it, you got a good flow going, good lines, it melds together well, no hokey lines.....smooth I guess is the best way to put it.

Thanks for the comments guys.
JP - I'm down for that. Maybe once all this huge contests are over we can do that.
Beast - sleep? What's that? But seriously though, I did put a lot of hours into it this weekend. Last night I was super exhausted. Had a hard time getting up for work this morning.
This has to be the most mods I've done on any kit so far.

Iceman: this is amazing. I'm truly agog at your ingenuity and energy at getting this moving so fast during this time of the season. I had my idea and ordered all my necessary hardware and accessories and really thought my direction was unique, laid back and yet achievable. You've blown everything out of the water with your chop shop! You've motivated me that after the contest is over and I return to my drag roots, I will set aside some time with an old classic car kit to figure out some of these techniques. I too would bid on yours as the build of the contest!

Thanks Mitch. I found out a while back that in order to grow in the hobby you gotta move out of your comfort zone and build something out of the ordinary. To be honest with you, I didnt know how this was going to turn out until I started. I knew I was going to do a chop. That's it. Then as I started chopping I got brave after the results and so far, it looks ok. Had to put it on the back burner to work on the resin build and soon to start my gift from Santa.

It's good to switch gears on builds for sure, if you have the time in a contest situation. MOTM's are a bit harder. I'll have my 1st pics posted today for the contest; I was finishing up the chassis build on a funny car and didn't pay enough attention to the pickup truck instructions. I "assumed" it was a v6 and ordered my accessories for the build along with a v6 distributor kit. Got the engine, frame and other kit parts painted and detailed real nice, then installed the distributor and noticed the valve covers had 8 plug holes, not 6! It took me all last night to carefully remove the old piece and install the new one along with the plug boots!
I'll have pictures and a new thread posted today. As a teaser, I have an AMT wheel/tire kit which includes nice chrome Halibrand wheels and nice front tires; the rears are 9x15" slicks. The motif (hint, hint) is "what's red, hot and ready for any emergency"? After the engine is done, the pictures will start to reveal it's true personality. It's not one of my minutely detail drag specials that you'd expect; hopefully ppl will see a different side of my build potential!
Sorry if I hijacked the thread Ice. Just wanted to share blunder with ya!
