WOW! January MOTM in progress thread is already set up! Guess I'll spill the beans on my build.... I'll be building this 90 Mustang drag car as Milners ride. I have the back story written and will post it with my next installment around the first week in Dec. Until then just let me say that while John Milner's character is arguably the COOLEST character in the movie, but his story line is actually kind of sad. Think about it, he's a few years older than the other characters and he talks about how it use to on the strip. This tells me that all his high school buddies have moved on, either going to college or maybe got married and started a family, or whatever....they're just not cruising the strip anymore...John stayed in the game and worked hard to build the fastest car in the valley, but now to hold on to that crown he must continue to defend it. John has nothing to gain in any of these street races but could lose everything! and he sees that the cars keep getting faster....

Okay, time I start this....John Milner's is a pretty cool cat on the strip and I hope I don't offend anyone, but I see his role is that of an underachiever. He's a little older that the rest of the kids and he's still hanging around while the rest of his classmates have moved on with their lives....getting married and starting a family, going to college etc... John may have had the "bitchinest" car in the valley at one time, but now he's barly hanging on to his crown as the technology of the day keeps making the cars faster and faster. In the remake, I tried to hold true to this by building John a ride that would have been fast back when he built it, but can be had with a newer (more technology advanced) car. So lets get started... Here's a mock up of what I plan for it to look like. (of course it will be yellow instead of white...)

Nice. I like this. Good back story too. This remind me of the 5.0s that were pretty popular when I was in school.

I really like the looks of this already. The hood and wheels really set it off. Curious to see what engine you put in this.

This is interesting! Milner is my favorite character in both American Graffiti movies so it's great to see how this one will look. I'll keep a very close eye on this...Keep it coming.

here's an update on Milners Mustang. One more engine shot before it goes into the chassis... Heres the painted chassis with the engine and front suspension glued in place. Just a note to anyone who builds the drag version of this car. The instructions shows the engine/transmission being installed in step 6, but there is nothing to mount the engine to until you get to step 9! Duh! jump ahead to step 9 and install the tubular suspension then glue the engine in place... One final shot of the finished chassis with all the suspension installed along with the exhaust.

Holy Schnikeys Alan - this is really awesome. I am digging the different over sprays, and the details are really life like! Great tip too - skip from 6, to 9, back to 6 - Got it!!
Awesome work going on here bud, keep it up - Outstanding to say the least!

I like where this is going. I too always saw John Milner as an underachiever hanging on to the Glory Days
